A lot of people tell me they want a custom engagement ring but feel totally lost about where to start. Totally normal! Buying a diamond can feel overwhelming, which is why I call myself your Diamond Therapist. Here's exactly how the process works when you design a ring with me.
Step 1: Book a consult
Everything starts with a one on one conversation. You can meet me in person in New York City or virtually from anywhere. Bring screenshots, Pinterest boards, a ring you love from a friend, or nothing at all. We'll talk about style, budget, timeline and what your partner wears every day.
Step 2: Find your diamond
This is the fun part. I source diamonds directly through my relationships in the Diamond District, so I can show you options that fit your budget instead of whatever happens to be sitting in a case. We'll compare:
- Lab grown vs. mined. Both are real diamonds. Lab grown gets you more size for your budget, and mined has rarity and long term value. I work with both and will give you the honest pros and cons.
- Shape. Oval, emerald, pear, round, old mine and other antique cuts. Each one has a totally different personality.
- The 4Cs. I'll show you where to splurge and where you can save without seeing a difference.
Step 3: Design the setting
Next we design the ring itself: metal, band width, prongs or bezel, hidden halo, pavé, profile height and comfort. We finalize every detail together before anything gets made.
Step 4: Your ring is made
Every piece is made to order here in the US. Most rings take about 2 to 4 weeks depending on the design, so plan ahead if you have a proposal date in mind.
Step 5: Pick up, propose, celebrate!
Your ring comes with a lifetime manufacturing warranty, and I'm always here for cleanings, check ins and the wedding band conversation when that time comes.
A few tips before you start
- Give yourself time. Starting 6 to 8 weeks before your proposal takes the stress off.
- Figure out a ring size. Borrow a ring they wear on that finger, or ask a friend to help. I can work with an estimate.
- Have a budget in mind. It doesn't need to be exact, but it helps me show you the best options.
Ready to start? I can't wait to meet you.
Love ya, mean it!
